Installation of OCTOPUS Decision Support System for Germanischer Lloyd (August 2002)

In June 2002, Germanischer Lloyd ordered an OCTOPUS Decision Support System to be the heart and frond-end view of an intelligent Hull Response Monitoring System. Only five weeks later, the OCTOPUS-system was installed on board a Post-Panamax container carrier. The system converts wave information obtained from a WAVEX wave radar and the SPOS weather forecast and routing system into ship responses. This first installation is an important step in the implementation of a new generation intelligent monitoring and routing tools for ships in operation.

Imtech Marine & Offshore selects AMARCON?s OCTOPUS software (May 2002)

Imtech Marine & Offshore selects AMARCON?s OCTOPUS software package for integration in the UniMACS 3000 integrated bridge, Imtech?s state-of-the-art Digital Integrated Ship Management Concept. The main system design objectives are increased safety and reduction of personnel. At the same time, optimum use can be made of sensor information, during normal operation and in case of incident investigation. Simulation capabilities offer efficient route planning and on-board training.

Imtech?s UniMACS 3000 comprises the following modular components:

  • RADAR 3500 (PC-based ARPA Radar)
  • ECDIS 3500 (Electronic Chart Display & Information System)
  • CONNING 3500 (Integrated Navigation Information)
  • NAVPILOT3500 (Autopilot)
  • RICOM 3500 (Alarm, Monitoring & Control)
  • DPT3500 (Dynamic Positioning & Dynamic Tracking System)
  • VDR3500 (Voyage Data Recorder and Data Logging Systems)
  • VHF/UHF/SATCOM/GMDSS Communication Systems
  • NETCAM 3500 (Integrated CCTV System)

With this agreement between Imtech Marine & Offshore and AMARCON, the functionality of Imtech?s UniMACS 3000 will be further extended (ship response monitoring and on-board operational decision support using weather and wave information, ship-specific seakeeping characteristics and operational conditions and limitations).
