November 26, 2003 Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam orders OCTOPUS including Seaway for Windows 5.1. The shallow-water option, the user-friendliness and the modular design of the software were important criteria for Vuyk's Marine Operations department.

The Belgian company Jan de Nul N.V awards Amarcon the contract to develop a new Cutter Dredger Simulator. Jan de Nul’s fleet includes two of the world’s biggest cutter suction dredgers. Soon also the world’s biggest rock cutter dredger “J.F.J. de Nul” will be ready for operation. Amarcon will carry out the project in close co-operation with the client and the University of Gent.

Meteo Consult and Amarcon co-operate in the development of the new generation SPOS weather routing package. As part of that development, components of the OCTOPUS-Decision Support System (DSS) are seamlessly integrated in SPOS. OCTOPUS has been extended with a new functionality: Polar Diagrams. The results of seakeeping analyses carried out in OCTOPUS (this includes Seaway for WINDOWS) can now be presented in various illustrative formats, such as lines, smooth areas and above/below areas. Operability areas can be presented considering different criteria at the same time.

GL’s SRA-system which is build around AMARCON’s OCTOPUS software, has been installed onboard C/V New York Express, a panamax container carrier, owned and operated by Costamare Shipping Company and chartered by Hapag Lloyd. The contract was made between Germanischer Lloyd and the owner; Amarcon delivers to Germanischer Lloyd. The system features interfaces with the onboard loading computer, GPS, gyro-compass, a wave radar and the SPOS weather forecast system.

Release of Seaway for Windows as a module in OCTOPUS. The new release was sent out to the old Seaway users and two new users in Spain and Romania. Info: see our Seaway web page.

Presentation of GL’s Shipboard Routing Assistance system (SRA) at the RINA conference for Container Ship Design and Operation. Amarcon’s OCTOPUS software is the heart and front-end view of this system.
