Amarcon's first OCTOPUS Usergroup Meeting was a success!

The first OCTOPUS Usergroup Meeting was a success. Users of OCTOPUS Office and OCTOPUS Onboard came from different countries and listened interested to the several speakers;

Mr. E. van Rietbergen from Spaarnwater did the item User-experience while Leon Adegeest and Martin Eilander, both from Amarcon, demonstrated all about OCTOPUS Office and OCTOPUS Onboard. One of the issues was the release (end of 2007) of our new program OCTOPUS Office Version 6. We were glad to see that the users were very positive about the improvements that have been made within this new program.

During the meeting the attendees had plenty of room to ask Amarcon, or the other users, all about the software and the usage of the OCTOPUS products. Besides this they were also asked to mention desired changes or improvements of these products. A couple of very interesting issues came out of this which certainly will be checked for further possibilities.

Anyhow, the meeting was a success. We're looking forward to organize next year's OCTOPUS Usergroup Meeting 2008.

Jumbo Shipping purchased 2 OCTOPUS Onboard systems.

Jumbo Shipping, the company for heavy lift transportation of large unit weight and size cargo - worldwide, has purchased two OCTOPUS Onboard systems.

After a successful 3-months test on the mv Jumbo Javelin, the captain experienced that "OCTOPUS certainly is a very helpful system". The captain not only has assistance for searching for the best heading during the offshore operation, but now he can also show the clients onboard at what time the offshore operation could start or must stop by looking at the weather windows.

Now both the mv Jumbo Javelin and the mv Fairplayer will be equipped with OCTOPUS onboard with an interface with SPOS weather forecast, the loading computer and motion sensors.

OCTOPUS will also be installed on the mv Fairpartner. This is to gain experience with the OCTOPUS monitoring and routing decision support system during the transportation phase while sailing. On this vessel also motions sensors and weather forecast will be installed.

It is foreseen that the complete fleet will be equipped with OCTOPUS Onboard when the test period onboard the mv Fairpartner will be as successful as onboard the mv Jumbo Javelin.

Helix Energy Solutions ordered OCTOPUS for new pipelaying vessel.

Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. is a leading marine contractor and operator of marginal offshore oil and gas properties and production facilities. The new pipelaying vessel Caesar, currently under construction, will be equipped with the most extensive OCTOPUS-ONBOARD system currently available. The system configuration will include a wave radar, motion sensors, weather forecast and response forecasts.

One display will be installed on the chart table for medium-term planning. The monitoring and alarm display for immediate decision support will be integrated in the navigation bridge, supplied by Imtech Marine & Offshore.

OCTOPUS-ONBOARD integrates the weather forecast, wave measurements, motion measurements and motion forecast in one decision support tool, which translates the local operational conditions to weather windows. Using this feature, higher efficiency and safety levels can be achieved during the pipelaying process and while in transit.

Dockwise ordered OCTOPUS for Mighty Servant 1.

As follow-up of the OCTOPUS installation onboard the Transshelf, Dockwise Shipping BV ordered the next OCTOPUS-installation for use onboard the Mighty Servant 1.

The configuration will be the same as on the Transshelf. SafetyMax measurement and SPOS forecast with response-based routing at the chart table. And, based on this data, OCTOPUS-monitoring and alarm display for immediate decision support at the bridge.

OCTOPUS can be used without keyboard, with a track-ball or a touch-screen. The display can be switched to night mode. Configuration can be done from the chart table, or by sending small single files from the office the the vessel by e-mail.

OCTOPUS for series of 5100TEU container ship newbuildings.

CMA CGM, the world's third largest container shipping group, has ordered OCTOPUS-ONBOARD for the newbuilding series of 5100 TEU containerships, of which the first was delivered by HHI in November 2006. The application is monitoring continuously ship's motions and provides advises for route decision, in particular to minimize the risk of parametric rolling. In April this year the 'CMA CGM White Shark' will be equipped with OCTOPUS.
The 'CMA CGM Marlin' and 'CMA CGM Kingfish' will follow shortly after. The complete series counts 12 vessels.

"We have been searching the market for more than a year now and decided to go for the OCTOPUS-ONBOARD Monitoring and Routing System for the 5100teu trading through Pacific Ocean", says Mr. L. Gerard, Head of Newbuilding Department in CMA CGM. "There is a great interest among our Masters to have a navigational aid tool on the bridge that will help preventing parametric roll and offers other features such as advises in route planning. Our first experience with the OCTOPUS-ONBOARD system was gained onboard the 9400 TEU 'CMA CGM Rigoletto', which was instrumented with motion sensors and strain gauges within the scope of Lashing@sea joint industry project. The OCTOPUS-system is easy to install, very complete, provides exactly the required functionality and, we expect, will turn out to be a reliable support to our Masters".

OCTOPUS fully implemented onboard Dockwise's Transshelf.

The implementation of OCTOPUS onboard the Dockwise Transshelf has been extended and completed. In December 2006 market leader in the offshore heavy transport business Dockwise Shipping BV awarded Amarcon the contract to install OCTOPUS onboard the semi-submersible heavy transport vessel TransShelf as a permanent installation.

A monitoring and alarm display for immediate decision support in heavy weather has been installed in the bridge-console. A second display has been installed on the Chart Table. This unit is used for medium-term (response-based) route planning using weather forecasts. Both installations share the same source-information through the OCTOPUS sensor manager. Furthermore the system has been extended with motion sensors.

Samsung Heavy Industries selects OCTOPUS Monitoring and Routing system.

Amarcon is proud to announce that it received the order to supply
Samsung Heavy Industries with the OCTOPUS-ONBOARD Monitoring and Routing system for Höegh LNG's new SRV's (LNG Shuttle and Regas Vessel).

Höegh LNG and Suez LNG North America have designed the deep water port (DWP) Neptune Project for the delivery and regasification of LNG 10 miles off the coast of Massachusetts to meet New England’s growing demand for natural gas, using SRV-technology that is safe, reliable, and environmentally sound.

Neptune consists of 3 SRV's, an offshore terminal with 2 buoys, and associated pipelines to shore. In order to meet the project start-up of 2009 4th Q, Höegh and its partner MOL placed an order for 2+1 SRV's at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea in April 2006. These vessels are the most advanced of its kind, and will be able to meet the most stringent environmental conditions in the world. Amarcon's modular OCTOPUS-ONBOARD system fitted in this challenging concept because of its proven concept of integrated wave and motion monitoring and forecasting.

With this order OCTOPUS-ONBOARD systems are now applied onboard container vessels, heavy lift and transport vessels, pipe laying vessels, crane vessels, roro vessels, and LNG SRV's.
