OCTOPUS generates an alarm if: a connected information source fails (the loading computer, a wave radar,
a weather forecast or the connection with the navigation network); when the data gets older than allowed;
when the ship responses are reaching critical high levels; or when a period of down-time is coming up.
A clear distinction is made between System and Response alarms. Alarms can be acknowledged from any workstation running
OCTOPUS or by the ship's central Alarm Management System (optionally).
